Matcha—some may call it the cleaner, leaner, greener tea—the one containing a myriad of health benefits, which has proven to be true!

Matcha has been used as medicine since ancient times. The Buddhist monks realised these benefits and used matcha to help support concentration during meditation.

To boost energy levels and performance during exercise, many people have turned to pre-workout supplements. Matcha has found to be a powerhouse in its higher concentrations of pure and natural nutrients.

As a pre-workout formula, the caffeine found in other beverages and the caffeine in matcha has opposing actions. Matcha, high in natural antioxidants, boosts performance by delivering a full release of nutrients that sustains the body throughout the day. In contrast, many other pre-workout beverages offer concentrated doses of caffeine that immediately can release attacks of the "jitters".

In the Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, a study says that green tea is an excellent recovery drink for endurance athletes. Matcha has also been found valuable for increasing fat burning and promoting weight loss.

Promote Weight Loss

Many studies, including one conducted by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found that consuming matcha after twelve weeks led to significantly reduced body fat. There was also a reported reduction in BMI, waist circumference, and overall body weight than in the control group. Similarly, a review out of the Netherlands confirmed that the matcha is high in catechins and a potent oxidiser.

Other research has found that matcha increases metabolism and boosts fat-burning to help maintain weight loss in the longer term.

Benefits Exercise Performance

Clinical tests suggest that regularly consuming matcha can help speed up muscle recovery in athletes who focus on high-intensity workouts, such as burst training. Matcha can reverse cellular damage caused by oxidative stress, which could help prevent damage to muscles and tissues. In the publication, Basic and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, administering EGCG to animals suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome helped reduce oxidative stress and inflammation. Meanwhile, other studies have shown that the pre-workout use of matcha can increase energy, speed up fat-burning, improve endurance, and reduce muscle stress.
